GRAFTON FINE ALES HISTORY
The multi award winning micro brewery, Grafton Fine Ales was founded, formley known as Grafton Brewing Company in 2007. The first brewing premises were behind the Packet Inn on Bescoby Street in Retford, Nottinghamshire. We acquired our brand new premises in May 2014 back in Worksop after we outgrow our previous premises. Which also saw us increase our plant size from a 5 barrel plant to a 15 barrel plant for us to keep up with demand.
In October 2012 we started to win our first awards for our now known Artisan Speciality Beers. Since then Richard, owner and head brewer of Grafton Fines Ales, has gone on to win many more accolades for his beers. Including SIBA Best Speciality Beer in the UK and CAMRA Best Speciality in the East Midlands and many more….
Grafton Brewing Company is named after the Grafton Hotel on Gateford Road in Worksop. The Grafton was built in 1865 by a gentleman called Joseph Gardside. Joseph Garside was one of the founders of Worksop and Retford Brewery.
His wife was called Catherine Grafton and this is who we think Grafton Street and the Grafton Hotel is named after. Please read our blog on the town’s history of brewing, which has been here since the 19th century.
We aim to serve you the finest award winning ales and fruit beers made by ourselves, using only quality ingredients and sourced locally where possible.
Grafton Gin was born through ideas of how to adapt through the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 and 2021. I have always wanted to make a gin, and through this pandemic the opportunity arose and we went for it.
It’s been interesting as to the process as it has thrown obstacles along the way, but we did it, we managed to get the gin tasting how we thought would best represent our beers and our brand. We have designed everything ourselves from the taste of the gin, to the designing of the labels. This has made it a fun experience of learning new tools, to make our gin from being an idea, into actual reality.
We wanted our gins to also mirror our beers. Our beer Apricot Jungle is a National and Regional winning beer. We thought it would be great if we could also have an Apricot Gin to go beside it. Grafton Gin is to go with our pale beers, which we use to represent warm sunny nights, drinking a cold beer or sipping on a good old gin and tonic.
We shall be releasing more gins in the months ahead to go alongside other beers in the Grafton family.
But most of all we just want you to enjoy the ones we have, hopefully, sat in the pub or the garden, simply relaxing.
